Immersive Tagtool @ Deep Space 8K

In partnership with the Ars Electronica Centre, OMAi held multiple participative Tagtool sessions and workshops at the Deep Space 8K.

About this project

The Deep Space 8K by Ars Electronica is an immersive projection space, featuring an expansive 16-by-9-meter wall projection and floor projection of equal size. It is designed to facilitate state-of-the-art audiovisual experiences in highly detailed visual resolution. In partnership with the Ars Electronica Centre, OMAi held multiple participative Tagtool sessions and workshops at the Deep Space, starting from 2017.

In the public sessions, OMAi and collaborating artists created “dream worlds”, animated environments filled with creatures and plants. The audience were invited to engage freely with the artwork, whether seated, reclining, or moving about, and contribute their own ideas using the provided Tagtool stations.

The Tagtool workshops are divided into two parts. The first one usually takes place in a classroom or studio setting, and teaches the basics of collaborative projection painting with Tagtool. The preparation work is then rewarded in the Deep Space 8K, where the whole group works together to conceive and create a series of Tagtool pieces, and interact with each other’s movements in the immersive environment.
