About this project

Allez Hop is a music theater series for kids aged 3-5 years produced by Konzerthaus Vienna. OMAi creates the interactive scenery and digital puppetry.

The production aims to introduce a young audience to established and upcoming artists from the musical universe of the Konzerthaus, one of Vienna’s leading concert halls. Four to five times a year, the Berio hall is transformed into a flower meadow, and the Allez Hop ensemble, including Markus Dorninger and Matthias Fritz from OMAi, highlights the work of different featured musicians. At each show, the featured artist’s songs are weaved into a simple adventure story, centred around the main character Allez Hop, and its friendship with two flowers called Poppy and Dandelion, played by Sarah Jeanne Babits and Simon Schober.

OMAi’s work consists of creating a fresh scenery for each show using interactive projections, and bringing the character of Allez Hop to life using digital puppetry. The stage design by Laura Malmberg and Paul Sturminger consists of various elements made from wood and fabric that can be rearranged for each production. During rehearsals, the OMAi team paints the sceneries directly on the stage elements with Tagtool, in tight collaboration with the actors and musicians, and director Philipp Lossau. The Tagtool visuals are then made reactive and responsive to the music, with special emphasis being placed on audience interaction.
